DREAMING
MONTH 1
-
Ask away! There will be plenty of space for any initial questions you or your parent have about what taking a gap year looks like.
-
This could include a series of journal prompts, a creative worksheet, or just talking through what you'd like your year to look like. Let's outline your goals, so we can set a plan to reach them all!
-
I can provide an example semester or year long schedule, based off of my own lived experience, to spark ideas about what's out there, and what's possible.
-
Together we'll work through possible budget options, as well as ways to fund your year. Let's land on something that feels supportive to you and your family.
DESIGNING
MONTH 2
-
Assistance sifting through all of the possible companies, programs and trips out there (there are so many). We can narrow down which might be a good fit for you, based on timing, budget, location and aim, and rule out the rest.
-
This stage could include anything from support in drafting and proofreading scholarship applications (for specific programs.. worldwide grants for young students... etc.) or crafting a GoFundMe campaign (some programs are tax deductible!). There are so many ways to fund your year.
-
How do we even know what to ask? We will figure out what questions to bring to different gap year webinars. Arrive prepared to informational calls and get the most out of your time.
-
What does it look like to defer from college? Get your questions answered about what this means. Receive support around writing a deferral email or letter, and making sure you're set to attend college after your year of adventure.
DEPARTURE
MONTH 3
-
How do I receive college credit? Many gap programs offer college credit for some courses taken during your year. Receive support in figuring out how to make sure the credits align with your chosen college & major.
-
Each destination, climate and activity requires different gear, and gosh, it can be a lot to figure out! Receive expert guidance on not only what to pack, but where to buy it and which brands I trust (tried & true by my time in the field!). Also, tips on how to pack a backpack for an international flight, must haves on long travel days, and key checklists for what not to forget!
-
Together we'll figure out to get you from here... to there! Whether it's a flight to Africa, a bus through the Amazonian jungle, or a series of hotels and hostels along the way, I've got your back with the booking, planning, and mapping out your route from point A to B.
-
Tips and ideas about how to purchase travel insurance, the different types, tiers, and what feels necessary, all customized to fit your needs.
